The Student Support Team consists of the Learning Support Specialist, the English as Additional Language (EAL) Specialist, the Student Counselor, and the School Nurse. BIS offers a range of support services to PYP, MYP and DP Students. The program is designed to assist students who need extra support in order for them to reach their full academic potential.

English as Additional Language Support (EAL)
Over 60% of BIS students are multilingual and speak a language other than English at home. The English as an Additional Language (EAL) Programme has been designed to support non-native English speaking students from age 3 to age 15. The EAL program is designed to serve a small number of students who have been identified and need extra support with their English language acquisition.
The goal of the EAL programme is to support literacy and language skill development so that students use English confidently and effectively as a means of communication. Students acquire the language to be successful in both their academic and social communication.
The EAL teacher directly supports EAL students in the immersion classroom and indirectly supports EAL students through teacher co-planning, resource support and ongoing staff development. Our EAL students are successful, because all our teachers work together supporting language development through content.
Learning support services are coordinated and monitored by the Learning Support Teacher, who works collaboratively within the Student Support Team and classroom teachers to offer co-teaching, small group instruction, teacher consultation and home school communication.
The Learning Support Program is supported by a number of Indonesian Teaching Partners throughout the school, who may provide additional classroom support to struggling students.
All BIS students are expected to meet the academic demands of our curriculum with minimal support. Due to the structure of the Learning Support Program, the school is not able to accommodate students requiring intensive individual help for severe learning challenges.
Early Intervention Program
Bali Island School recognizes the various learning needs that young children exhibit during the crucial Early Childhood Years (Preschool-Grade 2). During this developmental period, students move at their own pace as they acquire academic and social skills necessary for success in school.
The Early Intervention Program at BIS supports students in Preschool through Grade Two. Students receive interventions based on specific needs as determined through classroom based assessments and observations. Support from the Early Intervention Teacher (EIT) is provided within the classroom setting. At times, small groups (Boost Groups) are developed to target specific skills. The Early Intervention Program aims to provide short term interventions to support our youngest learners through this critical developmental period.
