And the winners are…
It’s the end of the first term here at BIS and we must say all of us – students, teachers, staff and parents – are feeling that the break is well deserved!
It’s been a big, busy and extremely successful term. One of the busiest, biggest successes being the first BIS Annual Invitational Basketball Tournament held here recently.
Six months of preparation… 16 teams… 38 games… 47.5 total hours of basketball... 11 different referees… 188 players… 752 hotdogs consumed… 1 291 bottles of water… All in four days. And at the end of it all, one victorious team: SMA 1. Very impressive playing, guys, and very well done!
Congratulations must also go to our BIS basketball team who did phenomenally well to reach the semi-finals! It was a fantastic effort by a young team against tough opposition. The BIS team undoubtedly showed great temperament and character and the school is bursting with pride at their efforts.
It’s not all about the trophy, though. As organiser Matt McCormick so rightly puts it, “Tournaments such as this one are not just about the basketball or the competition. They’re not even as much about school pride as they are about camaraderie and celebrating unity through the game of basketball, all the while recognizing diversity through its many participants.” For some amazing pics from the tournament, please click here or go to 'Photo of the Week'.
Matt assures us the show will go on again… only bigger and better! Next year the BIS Annual International Basketball Tournament, which will be held in November, will also invite teams from Australia, New Zealand, as well as international schools from across Indonesia and, of course, Bali. We’re looking forward to it already.
Speaking of looking forward to things… we hope you have a fantastic break and travel safely. See you in Term 2!
