BIS Primary Wet Carnival makes a big splash!
On Friday 28 November 2009, the BIS Primary School had a watery wild time at the 'Primary Wet Carnvial'. The idea behind the carnival was "to promote Cooperation, Confidence and School Spirit through group water play", and all those involved can safely say it did all that and more! In BIS Director Chris Akin's own words:
"What a successful event! I’m writing this as we’ve just stepped, sopping wet, off the main field from the first BIS Water Carnival for our Primary kids. There was a Great Golf Ball Hunt, Innertube Waterpolo, Water Balloon Toss, Parachutes, Slip N’ Slide Obstacle Course and a Water Relay, along with some yummy food prepared by our wonderful PTFA. Thanks to all the teachers in Primary who were amazing at running their stations, and to our parent volunteers for jumping in and helping keep the wet and bubbling little ones with the right groups and on time in moving about the Carnival."
Congratulations to the BIS Science geniuses!
Our BIS students did us proud at the Bali Schools' Science Fair on Friday 14 November, held at Sekolah Dyatmika. Special congratulations must go to these five students who were awarded special recognition for their excellence in scientific inquiry and processing of experiments.
- Sam Bencheghib and Jung Dae Lee: Third place in the SD Division for: 'Which Chewing Gum Holds Flavor the Longest?'
- Zoe O’Neill: First place in the SMP Division for 'Simple Water Purification'.
- Nicholas Hunt: Best Display in the SMA Division for 'Do People Remember Through Images/Sound?'
- Alizee Barth: Encouragement in the SMA Division for 'Are Fingerprints Hereditary?'
Congratulations to all who took part in the BIS Swim-a-thon
Here at BIS we really are swimming for our, and others', lives, and the recent Swim-a-thon all went swimmingly!
On Monday 10 November, the BIS Global Citizen Program (GCP)-Yayasan Kemanusiaan Ibu Pertiwi (YKIP Humanitarian Foundation for Mother Earth) group held a swim-a-thon to help raise money to send 6 Balinese students to a school. The more laps they swim, the more money they made and the more students they can now send to school!
Congratulations to the students, and teachers, including our Director Mr. Chris Akin, who all swam for their lives - and to improve the lives of others - and succeeded in impressing everyone who ventured out to support them (and emptied the pockets of those who sponsered them - WELL DONE!)
More than 320 laps were swum in total... we'll keep you posted on how much money was raised as soon as all sponsors' have paid up. And a big thank you to all you sponsors as well!

Science Fair Congratulations
On Tuesday 4 November BIS became the playground for budding future world-changing scientists... Students from Primary all the way through to Grade 10 were given the opportunity to showcase their scienctific knowledge, experiments and perhaps one day world-changing scientific breakthroughs! For photos of the Fair please click here.
The projects from the Grade 6-10 science students were under especially close scrutiny from our judges as students with the best projects will be representing BIS at the Interschool Science Fair to be held on November 14 at Dyatmika from 1-5pm.
Congratulations to the following students who wil be taking their thought-provoking work to the Interschool Science Fair:
Anna Liokouris & Lena Moral – Pop or Not
Sam Bencheghib & Jung Dae Lee – Which chewing gum holds flavour the longest?
Lachlan Manser – What building materials are most flammable?
Shen Forrest – Bouncing Tennis Balls
Lawrence Lilley – What is the most effective mosquito repellant?
Zoe O’Neill – Simple Water Purification
Kiara Santos & Diandra Cappelut – The Power of Hair
Nick Hunt – Do people remember better through images/sound?
Alizee Barth – Are fingerprint patterns hereditary?
Nagi Matsuoka – Burning Calories
Well done and good luck!
