The Maybank Marathon Bali 2024 was an exciting event, especially for some of the BIS teachers who participated in as well. Two of our dedicated educators, Ibu Kania (EAL Teacher for PYP) and Pak Chairul (PE Teacher for PYP and MYP) participated in the 21K and 10K categories, respectively. Here’s a glimpse of their marathon experiences and the preparation that helped them run to the finish line.
Ibu Kania, how did you prepare for the 10K running category?
“Everything depends on training. My usual routine involved shorter runs during the week with the BIS Dragons Teachers Run Club, and longer runs on weekends. Setting smaller, achievable goals has helped me stay motivated and track my progress.“
Can you tell us your favorite moments during the race? either personally or as a teacher, Ibu Kania?
“There were moments when I felt like giving up. But then I convinced myself that I could finish what I had started, and it was an incredible feeling to watch my body keep going. It felt like a lesson in perseverance, or what I call ‘teacher stamina’! The cheering zones were an amazing experience, with incredible energy from the crowd. What a race. Thanks, BIS!”
How did you prepare for the 10K running category?
“I’m passionate about running and always run along Sanur Beach at least twice a week. The Bali Island School also hosts a teachers’ running group every Tuesday and Thursday after school for a fun 5K run. It’s a fantastic way to bond and improve our well-being as a team.”
Can you tell us your favorite moments during the race? either personally or as a teacher?
“The race pack collection and race village at Bali United Training Camp were meticulously organized, and the race route was stunning. I’m extremely grateful to BIS for providing us with the opportunity to take part in the Maybank Marathon, allowing us to not only engage with our school community but also connect with individuals from around the globe during the race.”
