Bali Island School Hosted Ubud Writers and Readers Festival In-School Program Featuring Rassi Narika and Drew Ambrose

Collaborated with Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, Bali Island School hosted the in-school program featuring Rassi Narika and Drew Ambrose on 23 and 25 October 2024. On October 23, Rassi Narika conducted a workshop for PYP Grade 3 students, beginning with a story from her book Robot Paling Keren, loosely translated to “The Coolest Robot.” The workshop focused on hands-on activities that combined storytelling with creative story-making using robotics. This engaging session allowed students to build characters and express themselves. On October 25, our MYP Grade 9 students enjoyed a session with award-winning journalist, Drew Ambrose. Bringing up the topic of Hands-On Journalism that focuses on global issues, Drew empowered the youth to explore the power of journalism in storytelling and how to create narratives that raise awareness and inspire change. “Our Grade 3 students had an enriching session with published author Rassi Narika at the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, focusing on the solar system. They participated in a hands-on poetry workshop, inspiring them to envision robots exploring the cosmos. This experience encouraged new ways of thinking about science and art, helping them develop their poetry skills. Grade 9 students worked with journalist Drew Ambrose, enhancing their unit on investigative journalism. They gained insights into reporting techniques, challenges, and ethics, inspiring them to deepen their projects and develop critical thinking and writing skills. These workshops expose students to professionals who illuminate their subjects and inspire new learning paths,” said Elizabeth, BIS Teacher Librarian. As a school offering a world-class education, BIS’s collaboration with Ubud Writers and Readers Festival aligns with its mission to engage and empower globally minded learners through an active and creative learning experience. Engaging authors from diverse fields allows students to gain real-world insights that complement their learning experiences.
